Mercedes Benz is hailed the world over as one of the most reputable, most luxurious, and most reliable car brands today. All of their cars are prized, and many people, despite the high costs still try to own one. Those who are on a tight budget, but still want a piece of the brand, can get a used Mercedes Benz in their area.
Mercedes Benz is also known for having cars that sold for ground-breaking prices, each one of them achieving prices that wouldn’t normally be in the range of the vehicle had it been sold during their time. There’s one Mercedes Benz 280E from 1978, an E class car that was sold at auction for $36,000, an outstanding considering the age and model of the car. Another example is a SLR McLaren Roadster, a car which has an average price of a whopping $495,000, starting!
The SLR McLaren is the pinnacle of design, technology, and engineering, considered to be one of the most beautiful GT supercars ever built. It can reach 0-62 mph in just over 3 seconds, due to its gigantic 5.4litre V8 AMG engine. But despite its price, this is not the most expensive Mercedes Benz car ever sold, for that distinction belongs to another.
That distinction goes to the Mercedes Benz W196, a legendary vehicle with a rich history and an unparalleled racing pedigree. The W196 participated in the Formula One of 1954 and 1955, winning 9 out of 12 races using its advanced engineering based on the Messerschmitt Bf109 fighter plane. It was one of the most cutting-edge vehicles of its time, and was bought just a few years ago for $24million, making it, at the time, not just the most expensive Mercedes Benz vehicle sold, but the most expensive car ever bought as well.
But what makes a Mercedes Benz vehicle so valuable anyway? The answer is all of the Mercedes auto parts used, each of which is made to perfection to give the car a perfect balance of form, reliability, and function. It is a testament to Mercedes Benz’s greatness.
